Alfred "Al" Davis, Jr. passed away on September 19, 2014 at the age of 95 after a brief illness. He was born on February 10, 1919 in Johnson City to Alfred and Annie (Casparis) Davis. His great grandparents, Alfred and Mary Russell Davis, were pioneer settlers in the Blowout community in Northwest Blanco County where the Davis Ranch is still located. Al grew up on the Davis Ranch until his family moved to Johnson City so he could attend school. He transferred to Fredericksburg High School where he graduated in the class of 1936.
Al graduated from the University of Texas with an engineering degree in 1941. He married the love of his life, Imogene Stevenson, on July 14, 1941. Imogene was the daughter of Judge W. E. and Lillie Stevenson of Johnson City. Imogene was the first Queen of the Blanco County Fair and Rodeo. Al worked for Westinghouse in Baltimore during World War II. After the war, he and Imogene moved to Austin where Al had a 36 year career as an electrical engineer with the University of Texas Defense Research Lab and Tracor, Inc. Al is survived by his son Alfred IV; his son William Steven and wife Cyndy; grandson Clayton Robinson; grandson Will Robinson and wife Jenna; and great granddaughter Skylar Paige Robinson. Al will be remembered for his keen intellect, for his uncompromising integrity, and as a loving and devoted son, husband, and father.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 11:00 am at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City followed by burial in the Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Friends of the Johnson City Library, Box 332, Johnson City, Texas 78636.
