Obituary

Anita Pearl Winters, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away June 2, 2005 at age 93. She was born November 22, 1911 in Johnson City, Texas to Meta Anna Hitzfeld and Herman Richard Bergman. She married Melvin C. Winters on November 23, 1929 in Johnson City where they raised their family while building their road construction business across the state. She is preceded in death by her husband, and two sons, Melvin Winters, Jr. and Charles Winters. She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Coleman; sister, Bernice Casparis both of Johnson City, brother, Herman Bergman of Marble Falls, and daughters-in-law Joan Winters of Johnson City, and Jamye Winters Legett of Austin. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Carol Green and husband Rodney, Stephen Winters, Clint Winters and wife Susan Loughran, Bill Winters and wife Barbara, of Austin; Clifton Coleman, David Coleman, Shelton Coleman, Cindy Sultemeier and husband Shannon of Johnson City and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was honored by Governor Bill Clements with a Yellow Rose of Texas Award. She was lucky enough to call among her friends the well-known and famous such as President and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, Governor and Mrs. John Connally, and Congressman and Mrs. J. J. "Jake" Pickle, but her greatest joy was her family who will miss her more than words can say.
