Anna Lee Slaughter Smith , 86, of Blanco, TX passed away at her home in Blanco Sunday, October 25, 2020. Anna was born August 1, 1934 in Loraine, TX to Clyde C. Slaughter and Mabel Lynette (Lee) Slaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Robert Clyde Slaughter, and sister, Lynda Jane Case. Anna is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Budje Smith; two daughters, Laurinda Schaertl and husband Daniel and Rebecca Ayers and husband Jeff; brother, Michael Byron Slaughter and wife Karen; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
Ann was a leader and admired by her classmates in Eagle Pass High School. She was a varsity cheerleader, guard on the varsity basketball team, sweetheart of FFA, Homecoming Queen, and Miss Eagle Pass High School. During her high school years, she met her sweetheart for life, Budje Smith. They married during their freshman year in college. She wanted to be a teacher and attended Southwest Texas College.
During their 66 years (almost 67) of marriage, Budje and Ann touched the lives of so many while living in the Texas towns of San Marcos, Seguin, Del Rio, Boerne, and Blanco.
Ann was a loving mother. She never missed an event that her daughters were involved in. She was present at all of her grandchildren's births. When her girls wanted to be in an activity, she volunteered to be the leader. She wanted to be involved in their lives.
Ann was a strong, devoted Christian woman. She taught Bible classes for many years beginning when she was a very young woman.
Ann spent several years teaching kindergarten at St. James School in Del Rio. She had such a gift of guiding children and adults with knowledge. She was a true light to many.
Family was a very important part of her life. Ann, along with her husband Budje, helped to establish the first of 60 annual family reunions in 1958. Ann was her happiest when all of her family was together.
Ann was always ready to be a real helpmate to her husband, Budje. The two of them ran several different businesses. She and Budje were entrepreneurs before the word became popular.
Even though Ann was busy with her businesses, she was always willing to lend a hand to help others. She always put others first.
