Edith Bernice (Bergman) Casparis passed away April 26, 2018 at the age of 97 with her "kids" at her side. She was born October 2, 1920, in Johnson City, Texas, to Herman Richard Bergman Sr., and Meta Ann (Hitzfeld) Bergman. She was a lifelong member of the Johnson City United Methodist Church. She married W.C. Casparis Jr. on May 25, 1942. They were married 55 years prior to his death in 1997.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Johnson City. Arrangements are under the direction of Crofts-Crow Funeral Home.
Mrs. Casparis grew up in the telephone office where her older sisters ran the switchboard. She always had fond memories of playing and fishing in Town Creek. Bernice graduated from Johnson City High School in 1939. She married W.C and moved to San Antonio where he worked at Kelly Air Force Base. He served three years in the China, Burma, India war zone. During his absence, she moved back to Johnson City, and Donna was born in August 1944. Bernice's independent strong nature allowed her to raise and care for their daughter until his return. When he returned Donna was 3 years old and there was one can of beans in the pantry. Bernice was a homemaker and always provided for family and supported their endeavors. In later years she and W.C. enjoyed traveling (only by car), flipping homes, eating out, dancing at Mountain Top and other local halls, and spending time with their "kids".
Bernice is survived by two grand"kids" and their spouses: Farron and Jo Lynne Sultemeier of Fredericksburg and Crystal and Kirk Braden of San Angelo and 4 great-grand"kids" Aubrey and Payton Sultemeier and Koen and Carsen Braden along with many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by daughter Donna Sultemeier, granddaughter Karen Sultemeier, an infant grandson Tyson Sultemeier, all of her siblings and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to North Blanco County EMS. Bernice spent many years pricing items for the garage sale and enjoying the company of the other volunteers. Many of which she continued "Tuesday Lunch Bunch" with until she moved to the Knopp Retirement Center.
