Obituary

Betty Lucy Klauberg Courtney was born on March 29, 1927 in Houston, Texas, the second daughter of Walter and Jewel Klauberg.  She died peacefully on September 26, 2018, in San Marcos, Texas.  Betty married Jack Wournel Courtney on July 13, 1948.  Jack was a World War II Navy veteran.  Betty and Jack enjoyed a wonderful marriage until Jack unexpectedly died in 1991.  Betty also suffered the loss of her only son, Jim Walter Courtney, who died at the age of 37, on June 6,1997.  Betty is survived by two loving daughters, Lucy Kay Courtney of Blanco and Julie Ann Courtney Copeland of Houston.    Betty also is survived by two grandsons, Jack Dwire and Ryan Courtney Armstrong and two great grandchildren, Adrian Sampson and Scott Dwire.   Betty's granddaughter, Wendy Dwire preceded her in death.  Betty's strong faith in God helped her through life's challenges and gave her hope for facing each day with promise.

Betty embraced life as a great adventure and was an accomplished violinist at an early age.  She played in recitals at the age of five and concert violin in Junior High School and High School.  With her mastery of the violin, she was invited to play in the Junior Houston Symphony Orchestra.  In later years, Betty was a member of the Gospel Mountain Band in Colorado, which received national acclaim, and the Blue Grass Band in Texas.  She also played at First Baptist Church, Blanco, and at numerous functions and events in the Hill Country.  The music Betty played was an inspiration to everyone who heard her.

Betty was a loving Mother and Grandmother, who was fun-loving, energetic, creative, and joyful.  Among her many gifts, she was an outstanding cook, gardener, and seamstress.  Above all, she loved the Lord and lived life to the fullest.   Betty will be deeply missed by her family and many friends who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service in honor of Betty will be held at First Baptist Church, Blanco, Texas, on Friday, 12 October, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. .
