Birdie Lee
Bruemmer
Jan 13, 1935 — Sep 28, 2023
Blanco
Birdie Bruemmer , age 88, passed away on the Bruemmer Ranch in Blanco Texas, on September 28th, 2023. She was born, the youngest of two children, to Edgar and Ida Helmke Bindseil, in New Braunfels Texas.
When Birdie was 5 years old, her family moved to the Texas Hill Country to live with her grandparents on the Bindseil Ranch, in Blanco Texas. Birdie attended the Twin Sisters (one room) School House, with her brother James. There she met the future "love of her life", Roy Bruemmer. Roy's family were ranchers, and they leased the Bindseil property to run livestock. Roy and Birdie enjoyed going to the movie theater in Blanco, and double dating with James (her brother) and Ruby (Roy's sister).
During her high school years, the family moved to San Antonio, where Birdie attended Breckenridge High School, and graduated in May 1952.
Shortly after graduation, on June 28th, 1952, Birdie married Roy Bruemmer. Friends and family came from all over Central Texas for the celebration. Birdie Lee moved to the Bruemmer ranch, and they began building their long and happy life together.
In 1955, Roy enlisted in the Army, and they moved to Virginia Beach VA. In July of 1955, Roy and Birdie Lee welcomed Vicki Yvonne into the family. In 1957, upon Roy's military discharge, the family returned to Texas, where they continued ranching. Rodney Dale was born in December that year.
While Roy spent time farming and ranching, Birdie attended Durham business school, where she learned secretarial and bookkeeping skills. Upon graduation, she worked in San Antonio for Hammonds Jewelers, as a bookkeeper. In 1964, when her children were old enough to attend school, Birdie began a career in Customer Service, at Pedernales Electric Company. After 36 successful years, she retired in 2000.
Throughout her life, Birdie attended Trinity Lutheran Church, initially in Twin Sisters and then in Blanco. Baptized, confirmed, and supporting the church and her community. Birdie served on the Alter Guild, the Choir and The Good Samaritans for several years.
Birdie's priorities were God, her husband and her family. She worked full time at PEC, maintained a beautiful garden, canned vegetables, sewed clothing, smoked jerky and sausage. Birdie helped Roy on the ranch. With the precious time she had left in the day, Birdie had a few hobbies, and she did all of them with Roy. Bowling, dancing, and travel were worked into their busy schedules.
Birdie loved to dance. She and Roy traveled the highways in Central Texas to attend polka and western dances. During their retirement years, they belonged to several dance clubs; Twin Sisters, La Grange, Schulenburg, Manheim, Anhalt, and Gruene Hall to name a few.
They loved to travel; Alaska, Nova Scotia, Germany, France, Panama Canal and Hawaii were some of their favorite destinations. They frequently took bus tours and road trips, visiting the beautiful parks and sites throughout our great country. In 2012, they took the whole family to Hawaii to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Roy and Birdie were awesome grandparents, hosting all five of the grandkids at the ranch. They supported and traveled to see their precious grandchildren participate in all their hobbies, sports, and school functions. Annually they traveled to Georgia, visiting Rodney's family, often during the fall and Thanksgiving. Holidays were so special, celebrating with the grandkids. Birdie and Roy, aka "Omie and Boopie" to the grandkids, were terrific role models. They were married for 71 years.
Birdie will be laid to rest in her beloved town of Blanco, Texas. Birdie was preceded in death by her dear husband Roy Bruemmer, her parents, Edgar, and Ida Helmke Bindseil, her brother James Paul Bindseil, and her nephew Harvey Gene Bindseil.
