Brian Lutcher Winter died peacefully at home on Wednesday 24 July 2013. The son of Joan Brown Winter and William C. Winter, MD, he was born in San Antonio, Texas on the 6th of April 1960. Brian is the fifth generation of a family which had been fundamental in the development of the timber, pulp and paper industry in East Texas and Louisiana.
He attended La Jolla Country Day School, the University of California at San Diego, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and the University of Texas at Austin, studying the fields of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering. Well educated and highly intelligent ? always an innovative designer with to many interests and pursuits and too little time.
Brian grew up in San Antonio, Denver, San Diego and Lake Placid having a wonderful childhood and early life and eventually met his future wife in Lake Placid, New York. They left the cold of the North East and returned to Texas and settled on their ranch in Blanco, Texas where they ran a busy integrated agricultural-wildlife operation.
Beloved and missed very much ? Brian is predeceased by his mother, Emily Joan Brow Winter, his brother, Phillip Scrimshaw and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Brown, all of San Antonio. He is survived by his wife, Jane A. Owen, his father William C. Winter, MD, and his wife Judy, his brother, Bruce Lutcher Winter, MD, and his wife Tammy, their daughter Nikki and Abby Winter, his brother George Lutcher Winter and his wife Janet, and their four children, Magdelena, George, Gabby and Phillip and his cousins Jim Negley, Dick Negley, Laura Negley and her husband Chris Gill, Federico Brown, Louis Brown, Len Brown and Emily Brown.
