Obituary

"You can See the Quietness and Tranquility that brings Peace of Heart"

With sad, heavy hearts on Wednesday July 21, we lost our beloved Patriarch Dale
Roberts. He was 87 and went peacefully at home to be with his Sweet Lord Jesus.
Dale was born in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma on February 24, 1934. He married his love,
Dorie, on February 10, 1973. Having just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary,
their love for each other will continue in heaven. He was preceded in death by his wife
Dorie, his parents Cleetus and Alta, sister Pauline and Grandson Scottie.
His loss is felt by his 3 children, Son, Rodger of Texas, Daughter, Barbra (Lynn)
McDonald of California, and Son, Brian (Jackie) of Texas. He was blessed with 11
Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren and many Nieces
and Nephews.
Dale lived in Long Beach for many years, working as a sales executive. He was a
Mason, rising in the ranks to Master of Hollenbeck Lodge #319. He was also a single
Father raising Brian from the age of 5, an unusual circumstance in the 1960's.
Around the age of 50, Dale & Dorie made a change, sold the house, bought an RV and
traveled the country making wooden clocks at craft shows. He cut them out and Dorie
painted them. While in Johnson City, Texas, at a church service the Pastor pointed to
them and said "Buy that Land." They had just looked at 5 acres on the Pedernales
River and as soon as they got out of church, they bought that land.
They eventually added on a couple rooms to their little hunter's cabin. Dale's Mom Alta
moved in with them and a few months later Dale & Dorie took on the challenge of
raising 4 grandchildren. They devoted themselves to the task even caring for the
youngest Scottie after a car accident. You may remember him as the Post Office
greeter.

Dale's favorite flower was The Bird of Paradise, a symbol of Freedom and Joy. He loved sweets, especially Blue Bell Natural Vanilla Bean ice cream. He convinced himself that using it in his protein shake was OK. Breakfast was his favorite meal any time of the day, and Chocolate gravy and biscuits was a family favorite. Of course, he would not say no to a Taco, and he made fantastic refried beans, oh and don't forget, lots and lots of jack cheese in those beans. He loved his dogs and was so proud to
show their newest trick he taught them. Bear used to bring his water bowl in his mouth,
turn around back up to Dale and kick him. This always came about shortly after Bear
heard the pop of Pepsi opening. And yes, Dale shared. But for those of us that truly knew Dale and loved him his favorite pastime was to make people laugh. He had a catalog of jokes and sayings that he used over the years. We
have no doubt that he is walking the streets of heaven sharing his jokes with all.
Dale carried the above quote in his wallet. We don't know where it comes from but it
meant something special to him.
Our family is very grateful for the loving care given to Dale by close friends and Hill
Country Memorial Hospice of Fredericksburg, TX.

Dale will be forever in our hearts and a treasured remembrance of our family history!
