Obituary

Carl J. Flowers passed away at the Eastland Memorial Hospital in Eastland, Texas at 2pm on July 26, 2006 at the age of 88. He was born November 14, 1917 in Milam, Texas to Jesse Curtis and Molly V. Flowers. He married Gretchen Weirich on Febuary 18, 1939 in Johnson City, Texas. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, James H. and Nancy Flowers of West Point, New York, John C. and Donna Flowers of San Antonio, Texas, and Don J. and Laura Flowers of Eastland, Texas. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren Craig, Chris, Carrie, Cliff, Justin, Shawna, and Julie and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Gretchen, brother Jolly, sisters Dixie, Lucille, Hazel, Violet and his parents. Carl served in the US Army prior to World War II and was honorably discharged in Febuary 1939 to assist with the production of war materials for Southern Steel Company in San Antonio, Texas. He worked for this company until 1946 at which time he went on to be employeed by Slick Airways at the San Antonio International Airport until 1948. He then became employeed by San Anotonio City Public Services as a pipeline welder and retired in 1983 after 35 years of service. Gretchen and he both retired and moved to Johnson City, Texas to the Weirich homestead overlooking the Pedernales River, which remained his residence until his death. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and a "true woodsmen". All wildlife may now rest. He enjoyed people and life to the fullest. Throughout his life he and Gretchen devoted their time to their family, church and community.Visitation will be at Croft's Funeral Home in Johnson City, Texas on Saturday, July 29, 2006 from 9-11am. Graveside services will be conducted at Masonic Cemetery in Johnson City, Texas at 1:30pm on July 29, 2006. In lieu of flowers, Carl had requested that donations be made to Cancer and Heart Research Organization of choice or to the Johnson City Methodist Church.
