Cecil Edgar
Brooks
Feb 1, 1938 — May 16, 2024
Fredericksburg
Cecil Edgar Brooks , a good and faithful servant for Christ, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024 where he was reunited with his mother and father Rachel and Norwyn. Cecil spent nearly 65 of his 86 years sharing life with his wife. Together they raised three children and were blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cecil was born in the hill country during the Great Depression. The older brother to three sisters, he helped his mother at home when Norwyn was called to serve in World War II. He had many nieces and nephews. Cecil was a hunter, an outdoorsman, and an adventurer. After high school he left home for Idaho to work in the Forest Service. He hunted deer, turkey, elk, and arrowheads. He panned for gold in rivers and streams across the United States. He always kept a healthy garden and was an expert at raking. His adventures led him to appear on the Arthur Godfrey television program with his band, The Calypso Islanders, in 1957. Cecil played the washtub bass.
He returned to the hill country and studied engineering at the University of Texas before spending a career in the power, construction, and transmission industry.
At a revival in the summer of 1959, a friend and mentor encouraged Cecil to open his heart to Christ. Cecil testified that Jesus came to him and said the same. He accepted Christ the next day.
Cecil Brooks was a good man. He was a gentleman who never met a stranger. He was slow to anger, quick to forgive, selfless with his time, patient, and generous. He spent his time on this earth giving of himself to his family, friends, and strangers and expected nothing in return. For this, he was richly blessed.
Those fortunate enough to know Cecil mourn the passing of a husband, father, brother, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, and friend. And they celebrate a life well-lived.
A memorial service honoring the life of Cecil Brooks will be held at Faith Christian Church, 1597 N. US Hwy 281, Johnson City, TX 78636, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM.
