Charles "Chuck"
Jerome Homan
Jun 7, 1950 — Feb 24, 2018
Blanco
Charles J. "Chuck" Homan . On February 24th, 2018, Chuck went to rest peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He was born into God's family to Jeanette Homan of Janesville, Wisconsin, on June 7th, 1950.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Jeanette Gladys Lamphier Karman and John A. W. Karman, father Earl B. Homan, brother-in-law Kenneth Butler, and nephew Terry Hecox. He leaves behind his wife of almost 17 years, Pattie Homan of Blanco, and his daughter, Erica Homan and husband John of East Glacier Park, Montana, step-children, daughter, Victoria Fisher and fiancé, Jonathan Bloodworth, son, Frank Griego and wife Eldy of Blanco, and son, Aaron Gray and wife, Leanna of San Marcos, Texas and mother in-law, Elnora Rutledge of San Antonio, Texas. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Eva and Garrett Fisher, and Ethen, Lauren, Alexander and Natalie Griego. Chuck also left behind his sisters, Charlene Severance and husband, Bob of Cedar Creek, sister, Mary Hecox of Sulpher, Oklahoma , and sister, Margaret Butler of Spring Branch and also niece Ashley Butler and partner Chris McLeroy of San Antonio; nephew Ryan Butler of Spring Branch; niece Lynda Severance Klotz and husband Lathan of Houston; nephew Robert Severance and wife Tracey of Kyle; niece Terresa Hecox Gilin and husband Dan of West Bloomfield, Michigan; niece Victoria Hecox of Sulpher, Oklahoma; nephew Michael Hecox of Oklahoma City and many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.
He grew up on a dairy farm and learned a strong work ethic, one that he hated to give up in his final years. He became a "world traveler thanks to the United States Army and the Vietnam War," as he would say, where he was a tank commander until he was shipped back stateside after suffering battle injuries stationed in Da Nang. Chuck found himself at the base in San Antonio, Texas after numerous surgeries and decided to make his home in our Lone Star State, where he became a father to Erica Homan.
Chuck found work at the United States Post Office Department, as it was known back in the 1970's and that is how he ended up in Blanco, Texas where he later met and married his wife, Pattie Homan March 17, 2001. A year later, their home at Canyon Lake flooded and they moved back to Blanco. After retiring from the Post Office after 30 years of service, he opened Chuck's Small Engine repair to keep himself busy, turning a long-time hobby into a business. It was a catalyst for him becoming Mayor of Blanco from 2010 to 2015. Exhibiting a lifetime of service to his family, country, and community, Chuck was also active in the VFW, serving as Quartermaster of the Canyon Lake branch, was an auctioneer presiding over many charity events and bingo games, was recently a volunteer for the Bulverde Animal Shelter, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Chuck's cancer began from exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam and because there had been no treatment for this type of cancer, he closed his shop and became a treatment test subject to help others in the future. Even after he was no longer Mayor, he still tried to do his best for Blanco, whether it was from the treatment center during a cancer drug study, from home, in the hospital bed or rolling down the streets of Blanco on his scooter. Grandpa Chuck will be greatly missed. Chuck was a loving husband, a proud father, step-father, grandfather, brother and a great man who will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM that afternoon at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
