Clarence William Goebel, of Cypress Mill, Texas was born on July 7, 1922 and passed away Dec. 1, 2005 at the age of 83. Clarence was born in Cypress Mill and the eldest son of William (Willie) and Irmgard Goebel. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Erwin Goebel. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 25 yrs. Bessie (Dixie) Goebel, three daughters: Sharon and her husband Jerry Hobbs and their two children of Lampasas TX; Rhonda and her husband Bill Rucker and their two children of Temple, TX; and Laura and her husband Glen Wendell and their two children of Austin TX. Also he is survived by one great grandchild.Clarence attended Cypress Mill School until the ninth grade, and then completed school in Marble Falls, TX. He also attended a two year tech school in San Antonio.In February of 1943, Clarence joined the US Army Air Force. His main station was in England. His main duties were aerial engineer and gunner. Clarence participated in 14 air raids over Germany and 19 raids over France. He had 65 hours over combat territory and 15,000 air miles over combat. Clarence was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, Air Medal with three bronze clusters, European-African-Middle Eastern ribbon with two bronze stars from 8th Air Force. After the war, Clarence worked several jobs but the last and longest was with A. W. Moursund. C. W. loved to fish and have fun partying with his friends. He had lots of trot lines in rivers and lakes near his home. He always helped out people in need or needing help. He had lots of friends on the river or lake to camp and enjoy the good times. Clarence was born on the ranch and lived his youth there. After raising his family he moved back to ranch and to live out the rest of his time with his wife, raising goats.
