Clifford R. Baird Jr. passed away September 3, 2015, at the age of 81 after a long and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Cliff was born at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on February 19, 1934.
His father was in the Air Force and the family moved a great deal. Cliff went to many different schools, graduating from Savannah High School in Savannah, Georgia. Cliff enlisted in the Air Force and while in Basic Training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, met and soon thereafter married June Byler. They have celebrated 62 years of marriage. Cliff is a Korean War veteran and was stationed in Japan as well as several state-side bases. Cliff left the Air Force honorably as a disabled veteran. In 1964, he moved his family to Boyd, Texas, which now included three children.
Cliff then worked for the United States Postal Service for eight years and ran a substantial farm with many registered pigs, large gardens, and fruit trees. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and also as the Methodist Youth Fellowship leader. He loved to coach Little League and Pony League baseball.
In 1980 with all of his children grown, he and June moved to her hometown of Blanco, Texas. He has enjoyed his life in Blanco, with time spent fishing, dancing, traveling the world, gardening, and carpentry. Cliff built two of his family's homes. He loved gardening and generously shared the bounty and expertise with friends and neighbors. He volunteered at the Blanco EMS and was a member of the Blanco United Methodist Church.
Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford R Baird Sr. and Effie Derbonne Baird. He is survived by his wife June Byler Baird, brother, Bill Baird, son David Baird and wife Becky, daughter Janett Baird Goad and husband Bobby, son Rusty Baird and wife Brenda. Cliff's extended family includes five grandchildren, David Baird, Brian Baird, Candace Baird Craig, Caleb Baird, and Casey Baird. He had nine great grandchildren, four and great-great grandchildren. He also has many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors that will miss him.
A celebration of life will be held at the Blanco United Methodist Church at 10AM on Saturday, September 12, followed by a gathering of family and friends in the Fellowship Hall.
