Clifton
Knoll
Apr 17, 1941 — Sep 21, 2023
Blanco
Clifton Knoll , a longtime resident of Blanco, Texas and loving husband and father, passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of 21 September, 2023 at the age of 82. He was born on 17 April, 1941, in the Old Blanco County Courthouse to Alfred and Elise Knoll and is survived by six children, thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Clifton grew up in the Twin Sisters area, south of Blanco, and attended school in Blanco, playing both football and in the band for the Blanco Panthers. After, Knoll served in the United States Navy for twenty years and was inactive Naval Reserve for ten more. He served seven official tours in Vietnam and was awarded numerous medals and commendations including a silver star and two bronze stars, two Meritorious Unit Commendations—one star and one Gallantry Cross—and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal. He retired from active service at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer on 1 March, 1979 when he was transferred to the Fleet Reserve.
In 1962, he married Helen Kirkland and they had three children: Dena, Troy, and Karen. Later, in 1977, he married Joyce Lee and inherited four more children: Lou Ann, Ron, Richard, and Lisa.
Clifton touched many lives in his 82 years, loved to laugh and trade jokes, and while he could be a grumpy old man, always enjoyed having a good time with those close to him. He was an old car enthusiast and taught his sons how to repair and maintain what they drove, and passed subtle and sometimes not so subtle lessons to his children that they could carry into adulthood and pass on to their own.
Private graveside services will be observed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
An old warrior's watch has ended, and he leaves his legacy to the next generation to carry on.
