, 96 years old, was called Home by our Heavenly Father, Sep 10, 2020.
Born March 5th, 1924, in Rocky Ford, CO, Collins spent much of his childhood at his Grandpa's property on the East Spanish Peak, Cloudland Ranch, near Aguilar, CO.
In 1943, Collins joined SAC, and retired in 1964 after serving our Country for over 21 years of service. He settled in Austin, TX, after numerous missions and several wars. Collins was a Veteran of WWII, Korean War, Cold War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1964, he was asked to re-enlist and deploy to Vietnam and even though he was ready to go, his wife, Dorothy Ann, told him he had given his time to the USAF; it was now time for family – Collins drove out to Bergstrom AFB, Austin, where he had been stationed since 1959, and put in his retirement!
Collins joins the many loved ones who have welcomed him to our Heavenly Family. He is at last reunited with the love of his life, Wife Dorothy Ann Lawrence Mason; Mother, Ruth Collins Mason; Father John Joseph Mason, Sister Lucie Wilson/Husband, Walt Wilson, and Niece Cheryl Wilson; Grandpa Ralph K Collins; Aunt Margaret; Uncle Ralph P Collins/Wife, Aunt Billie; and Great Grandchild Jonathan Reyes; Mother-in-law Helen Barton Lawrence Wettengel; Father-in-law John Marshall Lawrence; Stepfather-in-law William G Wettengel; Sister-in-law Helen Virginia Lawrence Trussell Warren/Husbands Henry Christopher Trussell and Howard Warren.
Loved family members who will one day join our Heavenly Family include Son, Lawrence Mason/Wife Ada Bell; Daughter Ann West/Husband Victor; Son Bob Mason/Wife Pauletta; Daughter Virginia Mason Cummings; and Daughter Ruth Helen Dever. Collins was Blessed with 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. Collins' kitty, Billy Bob, and dog, Skippy, will one day join them as well.
Family will be receiving friends at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home, Blanco, TX, Wednesday September 23

, 5 – 7 p.m. A private Burial with Military Honors and Taps will be Thursday, September 24th, 2 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Dorothy Ann.
Many heartfelt thanks to Hill Country Memorial Hospice and LBJ Medical Center, for their expertise, guidance, and loving care for our HERO, our Father. We will miss you, Dad, until we reunite again. We love you and honor you forever!
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Acres of Love Animal Rescue in Blanco, TX at acresofloveanimalrescue.org . Collins was co-founder and V.P. on the Board of Directors for our Blanco County homeless pets. He traveled far and spent countless hours to help homeless pets in Blanco County. He was instrumental in starting the Blanco County Lost and Found Pets page, and the implementation of offering community programs to help keep pets home. His huge heart and love for our animals was limitless, and he recognized this need in Blanco in 2008.
