Daniel Lee Hawkins
September 2, 1946 – July 31, 2026
Daniel Lee "Dan" Hawkins passed away on July 31, 2026. Born September 2, 1946, Dan lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, generosity, and an enduring positive outlook.
After high school, Dan set out for a new adventure, telling his family and friends, "I'm going to Texas!" He settled first in Dallas and later became involved in the Texas oil business, eventually moving to Abilene, where he found both professional success and, most importantly, the love of his life, Penny.
Dan and Penny later moved to Austin before finding their dream ranch in Johnson City, Texas. Hawkins Family Ranch became a source of great pride and joy and a wonderful place to raise their family.
Dan's greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband to Penny, a proud father to Heather Lee and Daniel Sean, and a loving "Grandan" to his granddaughter, Carter Lee Cauble.
With extensive knowledge of oil, gas, minerals, and business, Dan was always willing to help others and expected nothing in return. He loved God, his country, his family, and his friends. He also enjoyed teaching others the safe and respectful use of firearms.
Dan had a gift for seeing the good in life, people, and even animals. He believed kind and positive words could overcome negativity, and he tried to live that belief every day.
Dan will be deeply missed, but the love, wisdom, laughter, and kindness he shared will live on through his family and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on August 29th from 1pm to 3pm at the Johnson City Fairgrounds.
