David Ray
Freer
Jan 19, 1951 — Apr 12, 2018
Johnson City
David Ray Freer passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2018 after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on January 19, 1951 in Fredericksburg, TX to Wilburn A. "Mutt" and Berniece Hunnicutt Freer. David was raised on the family ranch outside of Johnson City, along with his older brother Dale. He attended L.B.J. schools and was valedictorian of his graduating class in 1969. He went on the graduate from The University of Texas – Arlington. His biggest passions in life were ranching and spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing with his wife. David was well regarded by all who knew him for his kind heart, quick wit and competitive spirit.
David's parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Karen; his brother, Dale; his son Jason and daughters Jennifer, Nichole and Melanie; and their spouses Susie, David and Doug. He was also Pawpaw to grandchildren Caden, Heidi, Hannah, Jason, Jereld, and Jeffrey.
Karen and family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Debbie and all the staff at Hill Country Memorial Hospice for their devoted and compassionate care in David's final weeks. We would also like to thank the team at Texas Oncology in Austin and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for their loving care over the last 10 years.
A memorial service honoring David's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Johnson City with Pastor Lee Romero Officiating.
