Obituary

Delbert Eugene Brockway, 83 of Blanco passed away Monday, June 13, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will on Thursday, June 16 th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco. Services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church in Blanco, Texas. Burial with military honors will follow in the Blanco Cemetery under the direction of Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco, Texas.

Delbert was born on February 28, 1933 in Necedah, Wisconsin to Alonzo and Mabel (Swearingen) Brockway. At the young age of 17, with his parent's permission he chose to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. While stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas, he met his wife of 59 years, Darlene Smith and they married on April 5, 1957 in the Old First Baptist Church in Blanco, Texas.

He served for 23 years which included two separate tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded numerous medals of Honor, Air Medal, Bronze Star, Bronze Star (with "V" device, First Oak Leaf Cluster), Bonze Star (Second Oak Leaf Cluster). After retiring in 1975 he received his honorable discharge. After his retirement he moved back to Blanco in 1975. He started working with Blanco Independent School District as the maintenance supervisor, and a school bus driver. After 19 years of dedicated service he retired in 1995.

Delbert was a devoted husband and father. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blanco, where he had served as a deacon. Delbert enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors, and loved listening to country music and mastering the art of texting and emojis.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Harry, Louis and Marion, five sisters; Rosie, Pheobe, Martha, Gerte, and Fran, his son David Lynn, and granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Romero.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Darlene Brockway of Blanco, daughters; Deborah Lynn Jones and husband Gary of Blanco, Sharon Romero and husband Abel of Blanco, sons; Robert Brockway and wife Chanta of Blanco and James Brockway and wife Carrie of Canyon Lake. One brother; Orville Brockway and wife Mary of Illinois. Thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
