Dennis Morris Smith , loving husband, father, Papa and friend, passed away July 9, 2021 at his family ranch just west of Blanco. Dennis was born August 21, 1951 in the Historic Original Blanco County Courthouse, which later became a hospital for a number of years. His family originally settled in the Blanco area in 1872 when his ancestors, Nimrod and Sephronia Smith traveled on a covered wagon from Ashley, IL.
Dennis grew up in Blanco and graduated from Blanco High School, Class of 1969. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville where he met his bride, Mary Ann Klassen. Dennis and Mary Ann were married on July 14, 1973. Following Band Director jobs in Hondo and George West, Dennis and Mary Ann moved to Houston where he worked for American Alloy Steel for 40 years.
Dennis was a wonderful father and a "second Dad" to many of his children's friends. He spent lots of time outdoors, hunting, fishing and coaching sports.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Goldwin Harvey Smith and Beula (Edmondson) Smith; brother, Jack Smith; and nephew, Rob Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ann (Klassen) Smith; daughter, Laura Wallington and husband Jeff; son, Dennis "Matthew" Smith and wife Heather; brother, David Smith; brother-in-law, Tom Klassen and wife Christi; six grandchildren, Dean Wallington, Mason Smith, Jace Smith, Jake Wallington, Drew Wallington, and Alivia Smith; nieces & nephews, Craig Smith, David Smith, Jr., Robin Smith Burrier, Christopher Smith, Brian Smith, Kelly Klassen, and Melanie Klassen.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Friday, July 16, 2021 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco where funeral services will begin at 2:00 in the Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the McKinney Cemetery.
