CELEBRATE ME AWAY!
DIANA H. DAVIS passed from this world Monday November 16, 2015, in Dripping
Springs, TX, at the age of 91. She died of complications due to old age.
Diana was born to Frank J. Hafner and Katherine B. Kramer on November 19, 1923,
in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the third of five children.
Diana was preceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, John. She leaves behind
to cherish her memory two sons: Glen Davis and his wife, Suzanne, of Mertzon, TX,
and Rodney Davis of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Kevin Davis and Rebecca
Davis of San Antonio, TX, and Rachel Davis currently attending Syracuse University
in New York, and a large group of cherished nieces and nephews, and many, many
friends.
Diana grew up walking 5 miles through deep Minnesota snow every day to go to
school. In 1942, she started working at Tower Exchange Telephone Co. as a
telephone operator. Then, Diana met John and fell in love. They married on March
26, 1947, and moved to San Antonio, TX.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Diana worked various jobs: She was an office
manager for a laundry, an accountant/bookkeeper for Pan?American Speedway, and
she taught sewing at the YWCA to name a few. After John retired and they moved to
Blanco, Diana was active in her church and community, volunteering her time to
Good Samaritan's, the Area Council on Ageing, her church, and various other good
causes. Diana and John were avid square dancers, loved to travel, and had many
friends across the nation.
Diana has always been there for others as she was for her own and she was always
good for a hug and a kiss on the cheek. There are only a few other people I can
remember that made me feel the love and compassion that she had for others. She
always projected the feeling that she was glad to see you and, together with John,
could make friends, family, and new acquaintances feel so at home and so
welcome? almost like they had known you forever.
It is not what you may gain in life that makes you great, but what in life you may
give. Diana gave to us all the pleasure of her company, her love, her kindness,
herself. This makes her truly great in our eyes. We consider it a wonderful gift to
have been part of her life. She will be missed.
A memorial service for Diana will be held at Blanco United Methodist Church on
Saturday, December 5th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Diana wished for
contributions to be made to Blanco United Methodist Church's Scholarship Fund.
Diana led a long and fulfilling life and shortly before passing said she did not wish to
be mourned. It is her wish that we celebrate her away!
