Doris Evelyn
Jones
Apr 18, 1927 — Jan 2, 2022
Johnson City
Doris Evelyn LaFrance Jones was born April 18, 1927, to Walter and Charity LaFrance in Hornsby Bend, Texas. Doris married Joseph D. Jones on December 28, 1946, and during their 71 years, they raised four sons and enjoyed the addition of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren.
Doris was an artist and loved to paint as well as the craft of making porcelain dolls, which she turned into a business. Her paintings were based on scenery found in the Hill Country with bluebonnets at the forefront. She poured, fired, and painted the porcelain dolls and sewed their clothing. The orders and request for her dolls continued until her eyesight hindered her working.
As anyone and everyone who entered Mrs. Jones' house will tell you, she is best remembered for her hospitality. You were welcomed with "are you hungry, can I fix you something to eat?" And always, the invitation to a hot cup of coffee from the pot on the stove. Many a person could echo the words of Steve Brown when he wrote "I'm glad I met her and ate at her table."
Doris passed away on January 2, 2022 at the LBJ Nursing Home in Johnson City, Texas, at 94 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jones, and sons, Rickey, Mickey and Michael. She is survived by son Vick Jones and wife Mairi Gray of Leakey, Texas. Grandchildren Kimberly Simon and husband Aaron of Broussard, Louisiana; Cynthia Stephens and husband Tye of Kerrville, Texas; Charlotte Stephens and husband Neill of Kerrville, Texas; Christopher Jones and wife Stephanie of George West, Texas; and Codi Jones and wife Jeannine of Brush Prairie, Washington. Great grandchildren Ashton Vilcan and husband Dale LeJeune; Dakota Simon and wife Hailey; Kalyn Stephens, Kyna Stephens, Clara Stephens, Jakob Stephens, Emma Lou Stephens, Rylie Jones and Hatley Jones. Great, great grandchildren Harper Ray, Dakota Grace and Jett James LeJeune.
