Obituary

Dorothy Clay Dale Speake died on June 23, 2017. She has joined her husband, Sterling Speak, her two sisters, Hazel Ball and Jean Manes, and her parents Elmer and Jane Dale in Heaven and is with the Lord God. Born on September 1, 1922, Clay attended the University of Texas at Austin and served the Army Air Corp during World War II in a civilian capacity. Clay, who was named after her father's friend, was married to Sterling Speake for 34 years. Sterling was a lecturer on finance and credit.  Together they traveled throughout the United States, lecturing at Credit Unions.

Clay was a member of the Fist Methodist Church of Austin and the Austin Women's Club, where she served as president for several years.  Clay was from one of the pioneer families of Texas.  Her Great Grandfather, Elijah Valentine Dale, fought at the battle of San Jacinto in the Texas revolution.  Her Grandfather, Jarvis Elmer Dale, Sr., rode the Chisholm Trail on at least 2 cattle drives. Clay is survived by her nephews, Charles and Robert Manes and her niece, Ann Hand.

Memorial services will be held at her gravesite in the Blanco Cemetery, Blanco, Texas on August 3, 2017, at 3 p.m.
