Obituary

Dorothy Lou Buchanan Theriot , a beloved resident of Johnson City, Texas, peacefully embraced eternal rest on Friday, July 12, 2024.  She was born on February 6, 1940, in Austin, Texas to Jack and Dorothy Buchanan.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 39 years, Gene Allen Theriot, also her parents Jack and Dorothy Buchanan, and brothers Jack Holt, John and Maxie Buchanan.

Left with cherished memories are her children, Julie Theriot, Janice Hambright (husband Randy), and Gene Theriot (wife Diane).  Dorothy is also survived by her siblings Sandra Stowers, David and Chris Buchanan. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Jamie Nash, Stefan and Ross Hambright and DC Theriot. She also leaves behind 8 great-grandchildren.

In her earlier life, Dorothy was President of American Cancer Society and President of PTA both of La Porte, Texas.  In 1993, Dorothy and her husband moved to Johnson City, Texas.  After her husband passed away, she began working for the Johnson City ISD as the ISS/AEP teacher.  The students called her Mrs. T, and that name stuck through the years! She fully enjoyed working with the staff and especially the students! After retiring from the school, she volunteered with CASA (Child Appointed Special Advocate).  One of her greatest joys was working with children.  Dorothy was a long-time member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ in Austin, Texas.
