Obituary

Dorsey Lee Smith, Jr. was born June 5, 1938 in Blanco, Texas to Dorsey & Murl Bolieu Smith and passed away July 20, 2016 at the age of 78 after a short lung illness.
Dorsey graduated from Blanco High School and attended Southwest Texas State now known as Texas State University for two years. He worked in Wyoming and Houston, Texas before coming back to Blanco and buying his father's family business. He owned and operated the Dorsey L. Smith Co. a plumbing, electrical and water well business from 1961 to 2011.He was a Blanco ISD trustee for 8 years, served as President of Blanco Lions Club and Blanco County Precinct 1 Commissioner for 8 years. He was very active in the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and because of him the sons of Roland Bindseil gave the city the property where the Bindseil Park is located. When working with the Blanco Volunteer EMS, he was a volunteer driver one night per week, he also sold more raffle tickets than anyone else for several years. Dorsey was a member of the Blanco Baptist Church, he and his son were both baptized the same time. He served on the building committee when the new church was built and he was a bus driver for the church's bus ministry.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dorsey & Murl Smith, a son, Jeff Smith and nephew, Gavin Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Angie Smith, a daughter and husband, Tamara and John Pearson of Richardson and grandson, the love of his life Andrew Pearson of Richardson. Other survivors are a sister, Yalene Hobbs, brother and wife Mike and Kay Smith, and sister-in-law and husband Val Jean and Donald Wagner, nieces, Arden Lawson, Stacey Haugeberg. Laura Walla, Valerie Brutti and nephews, Greg Hobbs, Daren Hobbs and James Wagner.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016, 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Blanco.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be made to the Hill Country Memorial Hospice, P. O. Box 835, Fredericksburg, Tx. 78624 or the First Baptist Church Senior Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 280, Blanco, Tx 78606.
