Obituary

Eddy's story began in San Pedro de Macoris of the Dominican Republic on November 14, 1940.  Eddy Wilson Pabon was the baby of eight. Affectionally known as "Wilson" by his parents and siblings. The children grew up on a sugar cane plantation which belonged to the Pabon family. Eddy's father, Mario took over operations of the plantation business after the passing of the children's grandfather. Eddy talked about his fond memories of chewing raw sugar cane at leisure, probably leading to his sweet tooth.

Even though life on the farm was sweet, it would not last long for Eddy. La familia de Pabón decided they must leave the Dominican Republic in order to escape the repressive dictatorship of Rafaèl Trujillo whose regime oversaw one of the bloodiest eras of Latin America. So in 1946, the Pabon family escaped for Puerto Rico! Eddy's mother, Melba had family from Puerto Rico and so Mario and Melba rounded up their eight children and what little belongings they had to migrate to that beautiful little island. However, the family could not remain in Puerto Rico because the lack of steady work.

Within a couple years, the whole family settled in the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan, New York. At eight years old, Eddy was thrust into the American way of life. He would learn to speak a second language as a matter of survival. Shortly after graduating Haaren High School in Manhattan, Eddy joined the United States Air Force. It was here that he got his first taste of Texas in 1958. This is where he was introduced to what would become his life-long career—Hydraulics! He learned and excelled in understanding hydraulic systems as an aircraft repairman. Eventually the Air Force allowed him to station in Puerto Rico where most of his family had returned, and it was at this time he also became an expert diver.

It was 35 years ago that Eddy would admit, and his children profess, where he made his best and most prudent decision when he asked Telie to be his wife in 1986. She would help lead him into the Kingdom of Heaven. Eddy was baptized in the lovely name of Jesus for the remission of sins and received the gift of the Holy Spirit according to Acts chapter 2. Eddy would faithfully commit the rest of his life to serving and building God's Kingdom.

Eddy is survived by his wife, Telie, his children and grandchildren who are all in attendance today: Oldest daughter Michelle and husband Rick Loffi, children Olivia, Taylor, and Caroline; daughter Rory Pabon and daughter Alana; daughter Megan and husband Jeff Steele, children Beau, Vayle, Charli, and Navy; daughter Adrienne Pabon and daughter Irelyn; stepson Jerod Breakiron and wife Rhonda and their children, Finley, Monroe, and Gentry. As well as his two sisters, Maria and Libia, and we would like to make special mention of Eddy's sister-in-law, Nellie—wife of his late brother. Eddy was as another son to her. Eddy's heart beamed with pride anytime he got the chance to talk about his children and grandchildren. Eddy was a big guy with a big heart who loved big. His compassion moved him. Eddy followed the most important law of all, he loved Jesus with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength and he loved his neighbor as himself.

On February 17, Eddy Wilson Pabon finally crossed over and found the Bright City he had been searching for his entire life. It's a city with eternal foundations whose captivating beauty, no human can describe. It is a place no man can afford to miss. May we all be a little more like Eddy today and look forward to the words that mean everything…

Eddy Wilson Pabon, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord."
