Edmond L.
Hargett
Nov 1, 1922 — Jan 31, 2018
Cedar Park
Edmond Linza Hargett was born on November 1, 1922 in Sheffield, AL to Linza Deral and Chessie Fike Hargett. Growing up he had an older brother Nelson and sister Mary. At the outset of World War II, he volunteered for service in the US Army and was assigned to the US Army Air Corps. He served during the war as a flight engineer and gunner on B-17s flying air-sea rescue and other missions from the Philippines in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, he was blessed with a daughter, Carla, whom he cared for during her fight with spinal meningitis until her passing at age three. On April 7, 1956, he was married to Eleanor Margaret Sweet (nee Beckmann) in New Braunfels, TX. He became a beloved member of the Beckmann family in the Blanco area, helping with their ranching activities and enjoying the hunting and fishing sports he loved so much throughout Texas. He worked as a manager of a pecan processing plant in San Antonio for many years and later joined the security group at USAA. All who knew him came to love his strength, boundless humor, and loyal friendship. After Eleanor passed away on August 20, 2002, he shared his life with long-time family friend Jan Neimeier until her passing in March of 2012. Edmond passed peacefully on January 31, 2018 in Cedar Park, TX.
Edmond was preceded in death by his daughter Carla, his wife Eleanor, his sister Mary Bernice Alexander and brother Nelson Hargett. He is survived by his stepson, James A. Sweet of Cedar Park, TX and his nephew Raymond Askew of Auburn, AL.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the veteran's charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at Blanco Cemetery on February 17, 2018 at 2:00PM. He will be interred at Blanco Cemetery next to his wife Eleanor.
