Obituary

Ella Bates Cody, age 83, passed away peacefully August 5 th , 2021. Ella was born in Altamont, NC on August 31, 1937, to Ben A. Ray & Gladys (Pyatte) Ray. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Cody, her two sons Aven Eugene Cody and James "Jim" Douglas Cody.

Ella is survived by her brother Jason Ray, two sisters, Leslie Carter and Julia Morgan; two grandchildren Dana Crow and husband Gordon, William Cody and wife Jesse; and four great grandchildren, Annaleigh, Landon, Jedison and Veda.

Being a military wife is something Ella took great pride in. She was able to travel the world with her partner in crime by her side. She thoroughly enjoyed her times and friendships she made along the way. Ella was best known for her role as Mamaw to the grandchildren and "Bates" to the rest of the family. She always found joy in seeing a passing butterfly or red cardinal and would point them out whenever she noticed them.

Mamaw, you will be greatly missed. Psalms 91-4
