Obituary

Emil Louis Rudolph Sultemeier died Friday, February 16h at the age of 92. He was born in Sandy, TX on June 17, 1914, to Gus and Bertha Lindig Sultemeier, the third of their ten children. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific. He began his service as a cook, but quickly graduated to truck driver and finally to being an MP. While in the Philippines he was assigned to duty as an Honor Guard for MacArthur and witnessed the surrender of 4 Japanese commanders to MacArthur.On his return to Blanco Co. he resumed the life of a farmer and rancher. He worked for Brown & Root, clearing right-of-way when they first brought electricity to Johnson City. He worked for President Johnson for three years as a ranch hand. He built miles of fence for the public throughout the county and spent several years working for the Crofts Funeral Home. But he was the happiest when he was on his own land, plowing, working with his livestock and hunting.He will be remembered for his quiet, unassuming nature, his respect for the land and wildlife, his gift for teaching others how to do the things he loved to do, and the stories that he loved to share.He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Wendy Sultemeier of Johnson City; granddaughters Erin Beard & husband, Jeff of Austin, and Cady Sultemeier of Tomball; Sisters Vera Dietert of New Braunfels and Hattie Fuchs of Blanco; brother Erwin Sultemeier of Sandy; numerous nieces and nephew; and 92 years worth of friends and loved ones.He was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Bertha Sultemeier; wives Leora Specht Sultemeier and Lue Jarvis Sultemeier; sons Virgil and Raymond Sultemeier; granddaughter Emily Leora Sultemeier; brothers Alvin Sultemeier and Milton Sultemeier; sisters Clara Schilling, Cora Weirich, Minnie Sultemeier and Estha Hobbs.
