Ethel Mae Matthews died peacefully at her home in Johnson City, Texas July 11, 2022. She was born August 30, 1942 in Bandera, Texas to Fayette Everett Pierce and Ida Mae Clark.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Richard Matthews; her stepfather Lolan Green McCracken; daughter, Deborah Denise Brown; grandson, Aaron Matthew Thomas; son-in-law, Marvin Elton Brown; five brothers, Eldon Pierce, James Pierce, George Pierce, Tommy McCracken, and Joe McCracken.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by her daughters, Ann Hashaw and husband Earl, and Elizabeth Schmitz; siblings, Joyce Flint and husband Floyd, Bobby McCracken and wife Jamie, and Sam McCracken; grandchildren, Christina Smith, Justine Phillips, Haley McClaran, Maelin Schmitz; great-grandson Brayden Smith; sisters-in-law, Althia Pierce, Jonell Pierce, and Susan McCracken. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ethel loved her flowers and spending time in her garden.  She was also a long-time and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Johnson City. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City.  Funeral services honoring Ethel's life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 15, 2022 at First Baptist Church Johnson City, 102 N. Ave. F. Johnson City, TX 78636.  Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Johnson City.
