Obituary

Eva Ida Felps Beckmann was born October 19, 1907 to John Milan Felps and Martha Klappenbach Felps near Miller Creek. She died January 21, 2006 in Fredericksburg, Texas at age 98 years and 3 months. She was a lifelong resident of Blanco County. She attended Miller Creek School, often riding a mule with her three brothers. She married Alwin Beckmann May 25, 1930 and made a home on a ranch on McCall Creek for 30 years. There they reared two children, son Emil and daughter Anita. In 1960 she and Alwin moved to a ranch on Highway 32. In 1984 Alwin died and she continued to live on the ranch by herself for the next 22 years.Eva loved sewing and cooking and nothing pleased her more than having the large, extended family and their friends come to her home for meals.She was a member of Blanco United Methodist Church and served many hours cooking and serving the fellowship meals. She was well-known for her home-made bread, split-pea soup and chocolate pound cake.She was preceded in death by husband Alwin, grandson Bruce Beckmann and brothers Richard, Ralph, and Brit.She is survived by son Emil and wife Medora Beckmann of Blanco; daughter Anita and husband Joe Smitherman of Blanco; three grandchildren, Steve Smitherman and wife Laurie of San Antonio; Gary Smitherman and wife Tracy of Victoria; Nancy and husband Tito Romero of Blanco; Bruce's widow Trena Beckmann of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren, Mandy, Kelsey, Shelby, Jake, and Ross.Pall bearers are Steve Smitherman, Gary Smitherman, Tito Romero, Steve Felps, L.J.Wagner and Fred Bonnet.Services were held at Crofts Funeral Home, Blanco, Texas, January 24 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ken Greene and Rev. Wally Hiller conducting. Burial followed in the Blanco Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Blanco United Methodist Church, P.O.
