Obituary

CPOC Frank B. West, USN (RET) , 94, passed away October 15, 2017 in Blanco, TX.  Frank was born August 28, 1923 in Austin, TX to Henry Hiram West and Pearl Etta (Bagby) West.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Raye Jackson, Jewel Wynona Stewart, and Laura Hazel Price; and brother, Arthur Darrell "Tiny" West.  Frank, also known by many as "Pancho" is survived by his sisters, Stella Zieglar and Gloria Nance; sister in law, Connie West, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other dear relatives and friends.

Frank proudly served his country for 27 years with the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1969 achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  Throughout his career with the U.S. Navy some of his significant Tours of Duty were Fighter Squadron Twenty (VF-20), USS Chourre (ARV-1), Airborne Early Warning Squadron 14 (VF-14), Airborne Early Warning Squadron One (VF-1), & Patrol Squadron Forty (VP-40). Some of his significant awards are, Navy Good Conduct Medal (8), Asiatic – Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, & Vietnam Service Medal w/3 stars.

After retiring from the Navy, Frank returned home to Blanco. He set up his own Heating and Air Conditioning service called West Refrigeration, and for over 30 years people in the community depended on his reliable nature to keep their refrigerators or air conditioners running. Frank loved his Spurs and Cowboys. Many family and friends, through hunting, swapped some good stories. His dry humor and quick laugh will always be remembered.

Frank "Pancho" West has been loved by many family and friends for his 94 years. His memory will live on forever.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home in Blanco where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday morning, October 19.  Interment will follow in the Blanco Historic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, P.O. Box 1339 Fredericksburg, Texas 78624 OR to any Veteran's organization.
