Freda B.
Baber
Dec 8, 1928 — Nov 28, 2022
Johnson City
Freda B. Baber, age 93, of Johnson City passed away peacefully Monday, November 28, 2022 in Marble Falls, Texas. Freda was born in Hamilton, Ohio to W.B. Settle and Eula A. (Sparks) Settle on December 8, 1928.
She experienced love at first sight when she met her dear husband Burl, whom she married after just three days of dating in 1949. They made their home in San Antonio for 37 years where she was a devoted wife and mother of three. Freda was an excellent cook and served a homecooked meal on time every single day. She was best known for her delicious Miracle Whip Chocolate cake which will be missed by many. She thoroughly enjoyed taking part in her children's activities and spending many weekends fishing with the family at their beach house in Port Aransas. She was an excellent seamstress; making all her daughter's clothes and even several leisure suits (that was the thing back then) for her husband. After her husband's retirement, they spent 11 years enjoying life on the lake in Kingsland hosting many family gatherings. After her husband passed away in 1998 she moved to her daughter and son-in-law's ranch in Johnson City where she became a loyal ranch hand for 13 years. During her time in Johnson City, she found her calling making hundreds of crafts for Lights Spectacular and creating beautiful quilts for her family. One year she gifted each of her family a handmade quilt for Christmas (11 quilts in one year!)! She loved playing cards, dominoes and Rummikub and always had room for a piece of Funfetti cake. She enjoyed the many friends she made while in the Quilters Guild and Garden Club of Johnson City and cherished her time with friends in Bulverde, especially when they would reward themselves with tacos after their Easy Pace aerobics class. She seemed to make lifelong friends wherever she went and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She prayed daily for her family and found comfort in reading His word.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burl Baber, Jr.; brother, John Settle; sister, Clara Wright; and son-in-law, Wayne Talley.
Mrs. Baber is survived by her three children, Nancy Talley; Brent Baber and wife Valerie; and Rob Baber and wife Lisa; five grandchildren, Kelly Wigington, Brandon Baber and wife Kayla, Brad Baber and wife Shelby, Joshua Baber, and Austin Baber and wife Macie; and three great grandchildren, Scott, Sam, and Shawn Wigington. She also leaves behind many other loving relatives and dear friends.
