George F.
Gott
Oct 23, 1935 — Jun 5, 2021
Round Mountain
George F. Gott passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2021. He was born October 23, 1935 to Kenneth & Mae Gott. They moved a lot to find work, so George went to a lot of schools. When he was very young he always found work. He would have stories about them all, like digging graves and then eating his lunch down inside to get out of the cold. He would go to restaurants and pick up the discarded food and take it to a hog farmers, he worked at Armour and cut meat. He set pins at the bowling alley. Somewhere in his life though he always found time to play baseball and was very good playing all sports.
Then in July 1955 he joined the Air Force. Then he was stationed at Lackland, he met Shara in a fender bender (which he told everyone that his Plymouth was much better than Shara's car.) They met in November and married in May of 1961. (He told everyone that he wanted to date sooner but he didn't have money for a Christmas gift)
George was building a house for his mother, and we moved in and continued painting. Lived there approximately one year, George got orders to go to Germany, for three years. Robert was born there. That was the beautiful assignment. The next one was Vietnam and Korea. He also spent a year in Turkey . Then he was stationed at Lackland and bought a house there.
In 1980, George bought a ranch in Round Mountain. The house needed repair so that came first. Then he and his sons built a barn, and storage buildings. He wanted a milk cow, and when he picked her up it was snowing. Then he remembered why he had not bought animals before, but went ahead and got one more cow, and some pigs. He was always a gardener, so planted fruit trees and garden with enough always to can and freeze. As usual, he planted fruit trees and a huge garden. He shared zucchini with the whole neighborhood.
In the midst of all his work he raised bees and sold honey to the grocery stores. He had his "Pillsbury Doughboy" suit on. Cory rode with him a lot on rounds.
George decided Round Mountain needed a fire department, and neighbors got together and built it. He was fire chief, Gary Polvado was President and assistant fire chief. Every holiday there would be a fire and the family dinner would be set aside as he, David and Robert and Nathan would go ruin their shoes.
The fire department would always drive all three trucks in Johnson City parades and throw candy. George loved that as he sprayed the kids with water hose. Every Christmas the Round Mountain VFD hosted a Pizza Party. He raised and broke registered paint horses. He built so many pens to board others.
He had a heart of gold- took in so many dogs from the highway and gave them a good home. He dressed up with his Santa suit and drove to neighbors and surprised so many kids, even had gifts for all. Delivered a pony to one boy and took him straight in the house.
He played the guitar along with Robert and Shara. The band was "Nut & Honey's" and he was the singer too, and had such a good voice. Sang a lot at church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years- Shara Gott, son David Ross Gott, Round Rock, TX. Son Robert George Gott and daughter Lori Lynn Cantrell of Round Mountain, TX.
There are nine grandchildren: Cory Gott, Rebekah Gott, Cameron Gott, James Cantrell of Round Mountain, Schuyler Gibbons and Jordan Gott from Hutto, TX. Lisa Tatsch of Dripping Springs, TX. Blake Simpson from Austin and Brady Simpson of Ft. Worth. Also 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
George touched so many people in his lifetime. He will always be remembered.
