Gussie Myers
Rutter
Oct 5, 1941 — Jul 8, 2026
Blanco
Gussie Fay Rutter , 84, of Blanco, Texas passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels after a brief illness.
Gussie was born October 5, 1941, in Travis County, Texas. She graduated from Dripping Springs High School where she formed lifelong friendships with classmates that remained strong until the day she died.
She married Davis Rutter and together they built a life full of happiness and adventure for 51 years. In their free time they often went on "little drives" which might last a few hundred miles.
In 1986 Gussie and Davis purchased property in Kansas and began farming. Gussie hauled their grain with a pickup and grain wagon making the 20+ mile trip day after day until she was finished. Laughing, kidding, and teasing all of the guys that worked at the grain elevator with every load. On her last load of the year, she always baked the workers a cake. Last month one of those men stopped at the house in Kansas just to ask about Gussie and he reminisced about how they all enjoyed her cakes at the end of harvest.
Gussie never met a stranger and loved life. She was definitely one of a kind and that was easy to see by everyone she met. The last two weeks of her life were not happy for her. Two hospital stays and ten days in nursing home rehabilitation but in true Gussie fashion, she had enough of that, and now we know she is in Heaven happy, free from pain and traveling with Davis on another adventure.
Gussie was preceded in death by her parents Buster and Laura Myers and her husband, Davis Rutter. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy West and husband Neil; grandchildren Carson West, and Kate West Gisler and husband Brent; brother, Marvin Myers and wife Merlene; brother-in-law, Glenn Rutter and wife Mada Jean; sister-in-law, Leola Rutter. Gussie is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
