Harry Lee
Byrd
Jan 27, 1949 — May 13, 2023
Blanco
Harry "Lee" Byrd, age 74; in Blanco, Texas, passed away at his home on Saturday evening May13, 2023. He was born in San Bernardino, California to Charles Byrd and Lois Clark. Lee was preceded in death by both of his parents and is survived by his sister, Ann Price; brother, Gary Clark; daughter, Kemberly "Kemmer" McDonald, her husband Kenneth (his four kids), his grandchildren Anthony, Rickey, and Joshua Blood; and great grandchildren Jocelyn and Ryder Blood; his son, Daniel Crabtree and wife Renee, his grandchildren Melissa, Michelle, and Mark Crabtree; and great grandchildren Isaac, Logan, and Christian; plus, his life-long friend, Kathy Byrd and many more.
Lee was adventurous from a young age. He left California in his twenties and hitch hiked his way to Texas. Along the way he lived on a sailboat and became a pilot, getting to experience so much. He even bought a Corvette and became a member of a Corvette club. He was a big fan of Harley Davidson motorcycles, guns, and Dodge vehicles.
Lee landed in Houston, Texas where he began working in the printing industry which brought him to Central Texas in 2000. Over the years, he worked as a school bus driver because of his love for children, a semi-truck driver because of his love for adventure, but retiring as a beloved friend, father, and papaw. Being a papaw was his favorite and most important job.
Lee loved spending time with his family and his sweet 17-year-old pup Betty Jean who he had lost five days before he passed. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair every morning, watching the hummingbirds enjoying his many cups of black coffee and playing solitaire daily. He loved going to local Blanco and Johnson City restaurants where he was a jokester, so when the waitresses would ask him if he would like sweet or unsweet tea, he would reply, "I'M SWEET ENOUGH".
It is because of Lee's silliness, kindness, and love that he had for his family, friends, and community that he will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at Pig Pen BBQ at 301 West Hwy 290, Dripping Springs, Texas on Sunday June 11, 2023, from 3pm – 5pm.
