Harry Kenton
Carpenter
May 22, 1931 — Oct 9, 2022
Montgomery
Harry Kenton Carpenter , devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend of many, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2022 at the age of 91 in Montgomery, Texas.
Harry was born to Cloid and Margaret Carpenter in Ft. Wayne, ID on May 22, 1931. He is survived by his beloved wife Patty of 52 years, his sons Mike (Leslie) Carpenter, Harry (B.J.) Carpenter Jr., Chris (Debby)Stevens, Scott (Laurie) Stevens and preceded in death by son Steve Carpenter. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was one of eight children and is survived by one brother, Les (Sharon) Carpenter.
Harry lived a life of faith in God and was defined by love and service in everything he did. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force and served from 1950-54 during the Korean Conflict. From 1954 to 1976, Harry served in the San Antonio police department where his later years of service were as a detective in the narcotics department. From 1976 to 1992 he worked in the Office of the Inspector General in Austin, Texas.
Harry was elected as a write in candidate in 1994 and served a four-year term as Sheriff of Blanco County, Texas. After his years in public service, Harry worked as a real estate agent, and later, as a general contractor through his company, Old Settlement Custom Homes. Along the way, he was ordained into Christian ministry and served as an elder in Community Church of the Hills in Johnson City and later at Hill Country Fellowship in Burnet. His love for the Lord shaped his love for his family and friends.
Through the years, a common thread woven into Harry's life was his genuine concern for others. He was quick to listen and slow to speak and could wisely discern a person's heart. These qualities served him well in his private life and also in his work as a detective. He took his burdens and concerns in all these areas to his loving and faithful Heavenly Father. Harry's faithful and humble service to his family and those around him revealed the love of his Heavenly Father his whole life.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Miller Creek Cemetery in Johnson City, followed by a reception at 12:00pm at Community Church of the Hills.
Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Harry's memory to the Connie Carpenter Educational Scholarship Fund where each year scholarships are given to students planning to serve others through their education of higher learning. These may be mailed to 8995 Navigation Circle, Montgomery, TX 77316.
