Harvey Lee Rust , a beloved member of the Blanco community, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born on August 22, 1942, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Waldie Theodore Rust and Etelka Anna (Haas) Rust.
Harvey grew up in Comal County, Texas, attending Sherwood School until 7th grade, and later Blanco Schools. However, his sense of duty led him to join the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for six years. On his birthday in 1965, Harvey married the love of his life, Marilynn Bindseil, and together they built a life filled with love and happiness.
Professionally, Harvey dedicated 30 years of his life to the Guadalupe Valley Telephone Company (GVTC), where he worked diligently until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic, never taking a sick day. Outside of his career, Harvey had a passion for bowling, and his skills on the lanes were revered by his friends and family.
Harvey was a true outdoorsman, finding solace in cutting cedar and clearing land. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Harvey Lee Rust is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marilynn Rust, his son James Rust, his daughter Marci Longnecker, and his siblings Sam Rust, Betty Seiler (husband Stanley), and Dorothy Delavan (husband Duke). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Taylor Quintanilla, Hunter Rust, Victoria Dominique, and Joshua Longnecker, as well as his great-grandchildren Huxley, Mila, Analynn, Liam, Piper, Willa, and one on the way. Harvey will also be greatly missed by many other relatives and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waldie and Etelka Rust; mother in law, Ada Clara (Erben) Bindseil Fries, father in law, Raymond "Dutch" Fries, sister in law, Doris Rust; and brother in law, Bobby Bindseil.
The funeral services and visitation to honor Harvey's life will be held at Crofts - Crow Funeral Home in Blanco. Visitation hours are scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 25, 2023. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. David Mayer of Trinity Lutheran Church, will take place in the chapel at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Following the service, Harvey will be laid to rest at Blanco Cemetery in Blanco, Texas.
Harvey Lee Rust touched the lives of many and will forever be remembered for his kind heart, genuine smile, unwavering dedication, and zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
