Obituary

James "Ralph" Moss , affectionately known as Ralph, of Johnson City passed away on February 14, 2024, at the age of 80 in Fredericksburg, TX. He was born on March 18, 1943, in Laurel, Mississippi, to Herman and Grace (Holifield) Moss.

Ralph lived a fulfilling life, leaving an indelible mark on his family and community. He married the love of his life, Madeleine Ellis, whom he met on a blind date in 1964. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Kathryn and Shannon.

After a successful career in the auto parts industry as a Parts Manager in Houston, Ralph decided to move his family to Johnson City in 1979 to pursue a career in Real Estate. He dedicated his professional life to serving the community, working tirelessly from 1979 to 2015, helping countless individuals find their dream homes and ranches.

Ralph's dedication to the community extended beyond his professional career. He proudly served as the Mayor of Johnson City for several terms, from 1984 to 2013. Under his leadership, numerous vital projects were completed, including water and wastewater infrastructure improvements, park renovations, and street enhancements. Ralph's commitment to public service made a lasting impact on the city he loved.

A member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge #561, Ralph served as the Worshipful Master in 1991. He cherished the friendships and camaraderie he found within the Masonic community.

Ralph is survived by his loving daughters, Kathryn Gipson (Gaylon) and Shannon Crofts (son-in- law Scott). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Cory Gipson, Nicole Lara (Alejandro), Cody Crofts (Caitlan), and Dalton Crofts (Sammie), as well as his great-grandchildren, Isabella Lara and Weston Crofts. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Fowler (Joe) of Laurel, MS, Mitzi O'Flynn (Tommy) of Phoenix City, AL, and brother-in-law Paul Ellis (Sheri) of Matagorda.

Ralph joins his beloved wife, Madeleine, who preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage. He was also preceded by his parents and an infant brother, Clayton Roy Moss.

A memorial service to celebrate Ralph's life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at 10:00 AM before the service. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heritage Place in Fredericksburg for their exceptional care and love shown to Ralph during his time there.

In memory of Ralph, donations can be made to the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department or the Johnson City Parks and Recreation Foundation.

Ralph will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a compassionate public servant, and a true friend. May his kind and generous spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
