Jack Edson
Anderson
Sep 5, 1940 — Sep 15, 2023
Blanco
Jack Edson Anderson passed away on September 15, 2023, at the age of 83, with his loving wife and daughter at his side. Born to Benjamin F. Anderson and Emma Mae (Wilson) Anderson on September 5, 1940, in Rusk, TX, Jack was the third of six children.
Jack grew up in San Antonio, TX where he graduated from Edison High School in 1958 before receiving his Associates Degree from San Antonio College. After college, Jack worked for the San Antonio Express News before proudly serving 6 years in the U.S. Coast Guard both on active duty and in the Reserves. Other jobs he held included being a repo man (the stories he could tell about that time!) and working in the parts department at Riata Cadillac. Later he worked with his brother Ben at Kelm's gun shop in Austin, TX. Jack also helped establish the Central Texas Silhouette Association in New Braunfels.
Jack and Anna met in 1964 and were married on September 3, 1966. Jack's proudest role was being a stay-at-home dad after he and Anna adopted their daughter, Jennifer. He loved being a husband and cherished being a dad.
Jack enjoyed hunting, reading, and studying the flora and fauna of Texas. In 2006, Jack and Anna moved to their home in Blanco, where Jack was passionate about land conservation, nurturing native plant life, and embracing the wildlife of the hill country.
Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna (Rathmann) Anderson; daughter, Jennifer Anderson; brother, John P. Anderson and wife Joan; sister, Lannette Jaynes and husband Jack; granddaughter, Madisson Anderson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and no friends since he won the bet and outlived them all. He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Emma Anderson, brothers Benjamin F. Anderson, Jr. and Claude Dale Anderson, and baby sister Betty Lee Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home, 911 Mesquite, Blanco, TX 78606. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to pay their respects during Visitation, which will begin at 12:30 PM in the chapel. A reception will follow at the St. Ferdinand Catholic Church Parish Hall, 25 Main St, Blanco, TX 78606.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, https://www.tpwf.org.
Jack Edson Anderson will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his love of the Texas Hill Country. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
