Obituary

Jack R. Archer, 79, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006 at his ranch in Johnson City, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, March 27, 1927, the son of Earl and Lavonne J. Archer and attended Springfield schools. He graduated from Springfield High School as an All-Star Athlete in 1944. After attending one semester at Whittenberg University, he attended Ohio State University until he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. When his tour of duty was over, he was offered a full Football Scholarship at Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, Texas, and had an illustrious football career there. After receiving his degree in Geology, he went to Corpus Christi, Texas and became quite prominent in the Gas and Oil Industry for many years. While in Corpus Christi he was quite active as a Methodist Lay-Witness Minister and did a lot with the youth in the community. He was also a major contributor in the building of the Methodist Laity Lodge near Kerrville. His ranch in Johnson City was always Jack's first love and where he came as often as possible. He fell in love with the ranch as a young man, visiting his uncle and aunt, then owners, Ray and Jesse Lee Archer. Jack purchased the ranch with the thoughts of enjoyment, a retreat for young people and retirement. Jack received his 50 Year Certificate from the Masonic Lodge in 2004. He is survived by his brother, Richard T. Archer and wife Gene of Johnson City. A sister-in-law, Joanne Archer of Tyler, Texas. Three nephews, Mike Archer of Houston, TX, John and wife Leslie of Tyler, Tx, and David and wife Michelle, also of Tyler, TX. Three nieces, Sherri Loveday of Tyler, TX, Carol and husband Tom Bugg of Waxachie, TX, and Karen and husband Brad Ball of Orlando, FL. There are also 12 great nieces and nephews.
