James "Jim"
David Brewer
Aug 22, 1922 — Aug 31, 2018
Fredericksburg
James David "Jim" Brewer of Fredericksburg, TX passed away Friday, August 31, 2018. He was born August 22, 1922 in Oklahoma City, OK and grew up in Calipatria, CA. The years following high school, Jim enlisted in and proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Corps until October of 1945. After his enlistment, he returned to southern California where he had a variety of occupations before attending barber college. It was also during this time that Jim met and married Cloma Mae Chisum. Jim owned and operated his barber shop until he and Cloma moved to Johnson City in 1974. While in Johnson City, he worked for LBJ Elementary school then retired with eight years of service from PEC in 1988. The next several years found Jim and Cloma traveling around the country in their RV. In 2003 they moved to Fredericksburg. One of Jim's favorite hobbies throughout the years was woodworking. He built small toys for his children and grandchildren. His skill level grew right along with the family, making large riding toys and furniture. There was never any question of James D. Brewer's faith. Simply said, "he loved the Lord". Mr. Brewer read the bible daily, had many favorite scriptures and could quote scripture like a preacher. Jim Brewer is a dearly loved man and will be truly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Thomas and his daughter-in-law, Kathy Brewer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Cloma Mae Brewer; their five children, Duane Brewer, Aleta Davis and husband Donald, Kay Lange and husband Leon, Dorla Ortega and husband Manuel, Becky Brewer Wurch and husband Don and foster-daughter, Marquita Battiest Jackson; special friend Lou Anne Holland; six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
