Obituary

James Emil Meurer, 88 of Blanco passed away on Monday, September 18 th surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 21th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with Rosary at 5:00 PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Chapel. Mass will be on Friday, September 22 nd at 10:00 AM at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Twin Sisters.

James was born on December 11, 1928 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Richard Ernest and Catherine (Hartman) Meurer. He married Elsie Schmidt on June 16, 1951. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School in Fredericksburg. Following school James entered the U S Navy serving as a Hospitalman 3 rd Class, which in civilian terms is equivalent to a physician's assistant, from 1949 to 1952. He was on the hospital ship USS Consolation in Japan, in psychiatry doing ECT for shell shock on military personnel, the ship was the first ship with a helipad.  He returned home to work at the Humble Gas Station and did voluntary ambulance calls for the former Walls Funeral Home, then became manager of Blanco Hydro Gas Company until he retired, to work at StaBilt and drive school buses for the Blanco School District. James enjoyed his family, hunting, B-B-Q, football and all sports. He was always loyal to the Blanco Panthers, Cowboys, Spurs, and UT Longhorns.  James was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Catherine, siblings, Joe, Morris, Christine, Lucille, Helen, Bernice, and Richard Jr. As well as Debra's partners, Lynn Vudmaska in 1994 and Karan Perrett in 2014.

James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Meurer, daughter Debra Meurer, sons Jimi and his wife Julie and David Meurer and wife Deanna. 14 Grandchildren, 19  Great Grandchildren and Sister, Julia Meurer, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
