With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Wesley "Jim" Wright , who left this world on May 11, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Texas. Born on January 2, 1944, in Austin, Texas, Jim was the cherished son of William Merritt Wright and Joan Waldrop Wright. He was raised in Austin, where he graduated from Austin High School before proudly serving in the U.S. Navy.
Jim dedicated his career to public service, spending 27 devoted years with the Austin Fire Department, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community alike. Following his retirement, he embraced his love for the outdoors, relishing in hunting and fishing. His passion led him to serve as a State Deputy Game Warden on the Callaghan Ranch in South Texas, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for nature with those around him.
In June 2025, Jim experienced the profound loss of his beloved wife, Kay Burk Wright, with whom he shared a deep bond. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Billy Wright, and his sister Marilyn Kidd.
Jim is survived by his sons Wesley J. Wright (Danielle), Richard A. Wright and Steven J. Wright (Misti). He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren, Evan J. Wright, Kelly M. Crosby (Jacob), Colton Wright, Caleb Wright (Emily), and Kaleb Killingsworth (Natalie). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Jase, Jameson, and Vera. In addition to his immediate family, Jim is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of Jim's remarkable life. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Crofts Crow Funeral Home in Johnson City. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Liberty Lighthouse Fellowship, located at 321 Old River Crossing, Johnson City, TX 78636. Jim will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Kay in the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to organizations benefiting youth or children's well-being, reflecting Jim's lifelong commitment to the betterment of future generations.
Let us come together to honor Jim's legacy of service, love, and dedication to family. His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
