James M. Mayfield of Johnson City, TX passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in Temple, TX.  James was born January 11, 1931 in Tonkawa, OK to Roosevelt and Ruth (Thomas) Mayfield.

Mr. Mayfield retired from the U.S. Navy as an E-8, Sr. Chief Petty Officer specializing in antisubmarine warfare, after 27 years of honorable service to our country.  He received the following medals for his service: Korean Service, Vietnam Service with 3 stars, National Defense with 3 stars, Good Conduct with 5 gold stars and the Navy Achievement Medal for flights in combat zones.  In all his flying time, James had 500 hours in sea planes, over 450 hours in helicopters, 400 hours in Lockheed planes and a total of 2400 hours flying off Aircraft Carriers.

He had a second career with General Dynamics from whom he retired after 20 years of faithful employment.  Jim was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

James was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Pauline Wolfe and Elaine Griffith.  He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Treece Mayfield; daughter, Judy Crowley; stepdaughter, Meredith Bradford and husband Felix; two stepsons, Steven Treece and fiancé Joanne and Michael Treece and wife Georgette.  Mr. Mayfield is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and dear friends.
