Obituary

James Porter Watson , grandson of Hiram Brown (founder of Hye, Texas) went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2022 at his family's ranch surrounded by family and love ones in Hye, Texas.  Porter was born on the ranch on November 2, 1924 and was a lifelong resident and respected citizen of Hye, Blanco County, Texas.

Porter was born in the homestead on the ranch where he and the family still live.  Porter and his wife Juneth were married on July 3, 1947 and recently celebrated their 75 th anniversary.  He and Juneth were blessed with three children, Linda Lea Sewell, who lives on the ranch, Bonnie Lue Jenschke, deceased, and James Patrick Watson, who also continues to live and manages the family ranch.

Porter joined the Army and was in the Pacific Theater where he was stationed in the Philippines' Islands during WWII and after the war served his remaining time in Korea. He served with the 40 th Division, 108 Infantry during the war and was awarded the Bronze Star.  One of his fondest memories was the Honor Flight where he with other veterans flew to Washington DC and was honored for their service.

When he returned home from the military service he went to work on the ranch where he raised turkeys.  The ranch kept him busy and active with raising cattle and numerous other farm animals.

During his lifetime he served his community in volunteering with the upkeep of the Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse where he attended school through the seventh grade and was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Community Club, served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Rocky Creek Cemetery, was a founding and proud member of the Rocky Creek Community Church, was on the Board of Directors of the Blanco County Farm Bureau and volunteered numerous hours with Boy Scout and 4H Club in the area.

Porter dedicated his life to his family and his land. He was inventor and love to experiment with new things.  One of his inventions was a spotlight and a scope light, that he sold in the hunting store in Marble Falls.  Being color blind, he was challenge with his work but always overcame any obstacle with the help of his grandchildren Chantel and Paul Watson.

Porter by preceded by his daughter Bonnie Lue Jenschke of Stonewall, TX, brother Thomas Watson, and his parents James Phillip Watson and Edna Pearl Brown Watson and his grandparent Hiram and Margaret Ann Brown. He was also preceded by three great grandchildren Emily June Watson, Hope Watson and Annabeth Watson.

Porter is survived by his wife Juneth Watson, two children, Linda Lea Sewell and James Patrick Watson and his wife Margie, daughter-in-law Debbie Watson five grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife Laura Jones, Jennifer and her husband Duane Watson, Chantel Rose Watson and her husband Sean O'Donnell, James Paul Watson and his wife Misty Watson, and Kaitlyn Renee Marshall.

Seven great grandchildren Blaykton Watson, Riley O'Donnell, Henry O'Donnell, Jonathan Parker Watson, Temprance Watson, Hunter Jones and Griffin Jones.

Three nieces, daughters of Thomas Watson, Edna Whisenant, Barbara and her husband Jim Bob Braynt and Debbie and her husband Roger Gibson.

Visitation and viewing will be Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Crofts-Crow Funeral Home, 305 E Elm Street, Johnson City, TX 78636.

Funeral services will be held on September 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at Rocky Community Church in Hye, Texas. It will be followed by the burial at the Rocky Creek Cemetery behind the church and a reception at Pleasant Hill School.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, 808 Reuben St, Fredericksburg, TX 78624 in James Porter Watson honor.
