Jay Lee Hobbs of Johnson City passed away on Monday, March 7th at South Austin Medical Center.Born on August 11, 1929 in Blanco County, Jay Lee was the son of the late Charlie Hobbs and Estella Summy Hobbs.Jay Lee graduated from Johnson City High School and was a member of the 1947 Class B State Basketball Championship team. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving his country proudly. On May 2, 1954, he was united in marriage to Estha Sultemeier at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City.Jay Lee was active in his community serving on numerous boards and committees. These include being a member of the Hospital Board, School Board, 4-H/FFA Youth Council, Little League Baseball and was very active in his Church.During 50 years working in agribusiness, Jay Lee was known as the authority in the feed business. He touched the lives of countless youths and adults in the community in which he dedicated his life.Jay Lee is survived by his wife, Estha; his children Susan Hill and husband Steve, Barbara Schmidt and husband Stephen, Lisa Moore and husband Jimmy, all of Johnson City and Jay Hobbs Jr. and wife Angela of Austin; six grandchildren Melissa Buchholz, Amanda and Matthew Schmidt, Jessica and Charlie Moore and Lance Hobbs.Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Crofts Funeral Home in Johnson City and the burial will be held at the Masonic Cemetery.Memorial Gifts may be made to the North Blanco County E M S or the First United Methodist Church in Johnson CIty.
