Jo Ann
Wicker
Apr 21, 1934 — Sep 29, 2023
Blanco
Jo Engelhardt Wicker left this earthy world peacefully on Friday September 29, 2023.
Jo was born April 21, 1934 to Harold Walter Engelhardt & Clara Wurzbach Engelhardt in San Antonio, Texas. Her older brother, Harold Carlton Engelhardt (September 5, 1932) welcomed her home.
Jo attended South San Antonio High School. She was prom queen and high school Sweetheart. She attended Southwest Texas State graduating with a Journalism degree and teaching certificate. She "swam her way through college" at Aquarena Springs and quickly learned that swimming was way more fun than teaching ("and more money").
Jo was an Aqua-maid at Aquarena Springs from 1957 – 1961 and always loved the water.
In San Marcos, she met Wayne Wicker on the steps of Commons Cafeteria on Homecoming while mom was ditching a date who dared to wear blue jeans. They were married on September 5, 1958 and were married 55 years.
Jo worked at Education Incorporated in Arlington, the first educational supply in North Texas and made many friends there.
She had many friends in Arlington…employers and co-workers, neighbors, the tmnbctmow (ot) (Monday Night Bridge Club That Meets On Wednesday (Or Thursday), co-workers of Wayne's and their families and many, many more.
Jo loved the Cor-Jul Ranch which she named for her grandmothers…"Cora & Julia, Cor-Jul (cordial) which also means friendly".
Jo loved all the kitties and cows. She loved the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved cards and dominoes she would happily beat you. "Is that 35?" with a smirk.
Jo was cared for by Daddy Wayne, then Cymbre & Sherri. We had support from our wonderful church family at Trinity Lutheran Church, Holly Blasi & Rhonda Reid. Thank you all! In this last year, we are so grateful for the care she received at Serendipity House in Austin. Thank you to Christi, Carissa & Kristi and the other residents (Pitza & Elli too) for showing mom so much love. We KNEW she was well taken care of and LOVED! You are all amazing.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Sherri Le Wicker and Cymbre Le Wicker as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 6, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco, TX. Interment will follow at Miller Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 487, Blanco, TX 78606; The Carlin Wicker Scholarship Fund, Security State Bank, 201 W. Main St., Fredericksburg, TX 78624; or donations are being made for a backyard beautification project at Serendipity House where mother was wonderfully cared for the last few months.
