On April 25, 2016, Joan Margaret McGrath Cleary slipped peacefully from this life into the hands of our Dear Lord surrounded by her family. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 15, 1934 to Clayton and Anastasia McGrath and graduated from Washburn High School in 1950. Joan married the love of her life, John Joseph Cleary on June 12, 1954. For the next 20 years they traveled the world with their 6 children compliments of the USAF. During their stations of duty on Okinawa, Japan and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, she found the time to work as the Religious Education Director. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. John and Joan were married for 62 years. Her family is devastated by the loss of this beautiful woman. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Daniel McGrath.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years John Joseph Cleary of Johnson City, Tx. her children; Tim Cleary and wife Mary of Bastsrop, Tx., Patty Mayer and husband Rick of Plano, Tx., Kevin Cleary and wife Lisa of Pflugerville, Tx., Sean Cleary and life partner Kobie LaGrange of South Africa, Shannon Dakovich and husband Bob of Waukesha, WI., Mary Davis and husband John of Sweetwater, Tx. Eighteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
A visitation Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 27 th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the rosary starting at 7:00 PM at Crofts – Crow Funeral Home, 911 Mesquite St. Blanco, Texas. Mass will be on Thursday, April 28 th at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Blanco, Texas. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Twin Sisters, Texas.
The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either the Texas Right to Life, Centre Pkwy #200, Houston, Tx 77036, or the National Right to Life, 512 10 th St. NW, Washington, DC 20004.
