John D. "Dan" Lengefeld, LTC Ret. age 74, resident of Johnson City, TX died Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Knopp Assisted Living in Fredericksburg, TX after a protracted battle with Alzheimer's Dementia.

He was born December 27, 1941 in Smithville, TX to John R. and Ima (Wolf) Lengefeld and grew up in San Antonio, TX. Dan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Highley Lengefeld; his daughter, Danna Lengefeld (Paul) McClelland and granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace (Libby) Lengefeld of Castroville, TX; his son, John L. (Terri) Lengefeld and grandchildren Reese Lynn and John Ronald (Jack) Lengefeld of Georgetown, TX; as well as his sister Deborah Pope of Johnson City, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, adored grandparents, Mercer and Addie Odiorne Wolf and many aunts and uncles.

Dan retired from the U.S. Army after 29 years of service, having come up from the Enlisted Ranks and completing Officer Candidate School at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX. He and Cheryl retired to the Wolf Ranch outside Johnson City in 1990.  His proudest accomplishment was renovating his grandparents' house on the ranch in 2002 where he and Cheryl made their home. An avid outdoorsman, Dan was founding member of the Blanco County Sportsman's Club and a CASS (Cowboy Action Shooting Society) enthusiast whose SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) alias was A.H. "Hamp" Cox, Texas Ranger.

His wish was for cremation and a private family celebration of his life to be held at a later date.
