Obituary

Johnnie Mae Barnett , a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Blanco community, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 4, 1937, in Kendalia, Texas, to Johnnie I. Kneupper and Thelma H. Kneupper, Johnnie Mae embodied a spirit of kindness and resilience that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Raised in Kendalia, Johnnie Mae began her education there before her family relocated to Blanco, where she proudly graduated from Blanco High School. In the late 1950s, she ventured to Austin to embark on a successful career in the banking industry, dedicating many years to her profession until her well-earned retirement.

Johnnie Mae enjoyed many things in life. One of the most important things to her was spending time with family. In her later years, she loved spending time with friends, enjoying a cold beer, dancing and listening to the music of "Lost Sounds" Sunday evenings at Pecan St. Brewery in Johnson City.

Johnnie Mae was preceded in death by her dear son, Greg Schumann and her step son Billy Barnett; her parents, her former husband, Charles Moon, and her beloved husband, Bill Barnett. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: James Kneupper, Jewell Edge, Donald Kneupper, Betty Rust, Fay Schlameus, and Rodney Kneupper.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters-in-law, Sharon Schumann, Brenda Barnett and ViCindy Barnett; son in law, Bobby Barnett, her sister, Joan West; and her brother, Ron Kneupper. Johnnie Mae was a proud grandmother to Kindra Simms, Ryan Schumann, Guy Dean Barnett, Garrett Barnett, Brandy Barnett Carlton, and William "Billy" Barnett and a doting great-grandmother to Connor Simms, Kyla Simms, Logyn Schumann, and Dayton Schumann. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a wide circle of relatives and dear friends, many of whom considered her a second grandmother. Additionally, she is survived by the immediate and extended family of her late husband, whose presence in her life brought her great joy.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Methodist Hill Country Hospice for their kind and passionate care.

To honor Johnnie Mae's life, visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Blanco Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM. Johnnie Mae will then be laid to rest in the Kneupper Cemetery in Kendalia, Texas. Following the burial, friends and family are invited to Blanco Methodist Church for a reception.

In celebrating Johnnie Mae Barnett, we remember a life well-lived and the indelible impact she made on us.
